Bout of Books 12 - Masterpost

Hey everyone! I'm so glad that finally(!) I will be joining in with this year's Bout of Books 12,  which is running from January 5th - 11th. After seeing Booktubers' Bout of Books videos every year, and how well they do, I have always wanted to participate and now is my chance.
If you are interested in signing up, too, you can do so here.

Bout of Books
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 5th and runs through Sunday, January 11th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 12 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.

  1. Awesome list! Fight Club is a really good time. Messenger of Fear sounds interesting. Looking forward to hearing if it's any good! Happy Bout of Books!

    1. Thank you! I'm looking forward to finally reading Fight Club after years of it sitting on my shelf. I'm trying to forget I've seen the film so I can go into it with an open mind and not have any expectations~.
Messenger of Fear is like nothing I've read before. I'm not sure how I'd go about writing a coherent review without spoiling it, seeing as not an awful lot is given away still and I'm 150+ pages in. We shall see!
I hope you're having a great Bout of Books so far :3

    2. Honestly, the movie did a really really good job of capturing the tone of it. A lot of the voice over is word for word from the book. There are just a few plot points that are different.

Thanks, I'm having a lot of fun!

  2. I'm really digging your TBR for the read-a-thon! I read Fight Club for an English class in college, and I really enjoyed it. I hope you do too! Looking forward to seeing how do at the end of the week. Happy reading!

    1. Thank you :D I'm a little wary of Fight Club because I'm usually not one for reading adult books outside of the high-fantasy genre, but hopefully I'll get around to reading it today and enjoy it, too!
I hope you have a great Bout of Books week :)

  3. Best of luck, I hope you reach your goals! Let me know if Messenger of Fear is any good - I loved the whole GONE series, but I couldn't bring myself to finish BZRK, so I'm slightly hesitant to read more Grant. Btw, I just finished Paper Towns today and I loved it! I think I'm with you on it being the favourite Green novel :')

    1. Yay, thank you! ^-^ Have you done Bout of Books before?
I've been having mixed feelings about Messenger of Fear; the plot is so-so for me up to now, but Michael Grant's writing is so captivating *-* I'll definitely have to start GONE as soon as I finish up with a few other series.
Awh yass, I'm glad you liked it! After reading it, what do you think of the film casting?

    2. No, this is the first year I've even heard of it. I'm reading a lot this week but idk if I want to ~get involved in something. How are you finding it?
I love his writing style too! I think he manages to describe well while keeping the focus on moving the action along which I feel not many authors can do well. You finished it, right? 4 stars sounds good! Ah, GONE is a great series, it was my favourite for a while there in the mid-teens~ stage. It's well worth looking into :)
I like most of the cast - I feel like they casted Radar especially well - but I'm really not feeling Cara Delevingne as Margo, I was picturing someone more "girl-next-store/tomboyish" :/ How do you feel about it? Btw, so sorry I forgot to reply to you on Twitter recently, work got crazy before Christmas and it totally slipped my mind >.<

    3. Outside of Youtube, I'd never seen it mentioned anywhere else. I'm surprised it's not a thing that everyone's at on Goodreads .. or maybe it is and I'm just not seeing it :'D It's fun! It's motivating me to read more but not in a pressuring~ way. And there're chats on Twitter and blog challenges every day. And, most importantly, everyone's nice. I JUST LOVE STUFF LIKE THIS \o/
GONE is being bumped up my list, seriously. I gave MoF 4.5 - don't forget that extra half a star now :'3 It all came together nicely and I hella appreciate books that leave me satisfied with the way they're ended. Let me know what you think when you get around to reading it; I imagine it's something you'd like ^-^
Same! I'm still a bit skeptical about Cara because I didn't particularly like her before this anyway, but I watched a video she did with John on Youtube and I don't know. She's grown on me a bit..? I never thought I'd say that >_< I read a few days ago that Emma Blackery was hoping for the part of Margo and I'm just so relieved she didn't get it; I'd rather Cara be cast than Emma, any day.
Don't worry about it, haha. I sometimes don't see replies for days and then "I'll reply later" turns into forgetting to reply completely. BELATED HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR BTW!

    4. I'm new to the Booktube scene as well so it's brand new to me, it looks pretty fun though! I might have to participate in the next one :')
Ahhh I missed that lil' half star, they're important :') Will do, I'm really excited for it after reading your review, it definitely sounds like something right up my street alright!
Hmmm, okay. Yeah, she might be good in the end, I kind of trust them because I thought they did a really good job with the TFIOS casting - although admittedly I haven't gotten around to actually seeing that yet :| I have but a vague idea of who she is so I can't really comment, why would she be wrong for the role?
That is me, times a thousand. It's so bad. I think I'm going to have to incorporate faster/more reliable replies into my new year's resolution!
YOU TOO! Hope you had a great holiday :'D

  4. I like your goal of not getting stressed if you don't complete what you want to do for this read-a-thon. I'm the type of person who does get stressed if I haven't read one day. You read a lot yesterday. I'm sure you'll be able to complete your goal :D

    1. I'm the same when it comes to getting stressed over missing a day of reading here and there D: I ended up getting pretty stressed out last month when I didn't manage to complete my Goodreads goal of 80 books for the year. It turned what I love to do into a chore, and I decided I never want that to happen again - it won't be the end of the world if I read less than I hope to.
And thank you; I'm feeling confident about getting my TBR finished! I hope you're doing well and enjoying it, too ^-^

  6. Nice going! You're doing so well with your targets this week.
The Iron Trial is going on my wishlist. I have seen so many reading it this week. How is it for you?

I wasn't very impressed with it, to be honest. I thought it had some positives but, for the most part, I felt like I was reading an Americanised Harry Potter. I wish it'd been more unique~.
